Bob Kaufman, is the past President of National Travel Vacations, and for over 30 year ran escorted tours. This is his second book. He loves travelling to Italy and Spain. He has been all over each country. He stopped counting his trips to Italy when they reached twenty! Bob knows Italy. In fact, last year he spent one month in Sicily. He likes to base himself at a city and take day trips by rail to other towns thus avoiding the chore of checking in and out hotels all the time. Bob is an Eagle Scout. In addition to loving travel in Italy and Spain, he loves two other things- Lenore and gelato!

After having lived in Spain and visited other parts of Europe for the past thirty-five years it was a pleasure to read Bob Kaufman’s unique book on rail travel in Italy. It is very informative with advice on how to visit Italy without STRESS and relates pertinent information concerning hotels, food, tips and places to see. He compares different means of travelling in Italy and justifies the reason for doing so by rail.Many suggestions of his are not found in the usual guide books, such as: How restaurants in parts of Italy are closed during the months of August or how on one of their fast trains your seat may not be facing the direction of travel.Kaufman’s book will be an asset when travelling to Italy. Even if you do not plan to be using the rail system , this book is a must for gaining insight to how the country functions and how to best prepare oneself for a delightful and stressless trip around Italy on its’ superb rail system
Bob Kaufman has written an excellent book! It is quite clear from the detail he provides that he is very familiar with the places he describes. His suggestions and tips and extremely useful and worthwhile. After starting to read this book, I purchased another for my daughter, who is traveling to Italy this July. Anyone traveling to Italy, whether by train or otherwise, should carry a copy of this book. Suggestions like choosing the direction your seat is facing are examples of how helpful this guide is.
