R in Action does an excellent job showing the power of the R language. The book also serves a way to learn statistics and data science through using the R language.At the beginning the examples are practical, showing how to make graphs based off data sets that come packaged with R. Sometimes packages are required to install to get the examples running, and the author is clear about how to do this.In chapter eight there was an excellent description about Regression analysis. I knew what regressions were, but this explanation helped clear up some confusion I had. The author says (p.167): "It's [regression analysis] a broad term for a set of methodologies used to predict a response variable (also called a dependent, criterion, or outcome variable) from one or more predictor variables (also called independent or explanatory variables).Following this explanation is a concrete example given showing how to predict the number of calories a person burns on a treadmill based off different factors. I liked that the author defined all the terms, and then gave a concrete example. It is a pattern throughout the book that worked very well.The later parts of the book briefly dive in machine learning and more advanced data science concepts.The main focus of the book is on statistics, graphing, and plotting. This worked well, because it shows the areas where R shines compared with other languages. Luckily for the reader the author knows which techniques work well, and states when certain data analysis techniques work better than others. The author remains humble throughout, stating when he finds a topic complex.R in Action is a great resource for learning R and learning statistics. Explanations transition from easy to hard in a logical manner and this book will be useful for data scientists of all experience levels.

I have read quite a few books on R, and will rate this as perhaps one of the best if not the best. The author has explained the material with excellent clarity, the examples are relevant to real-world applications, and the code executes well using either base installation of R (with added packages) or R studio. Also, the author has managed to concurrently develop both data analysis and data visualization (graphing), which helps the reader, and exposes the capabilities of R very well. The range of topics covered in this book is very broad and gives a good overview of the field. As a clinician with interest in epidemiology, I found almost everything needed for beginner or intermediate level applications. Also, if one works through this book diligently, s/he will be in a very good position to follow more advanced topics (like multilevel models) from other resources.I have only one issue with the book (which is a generic issue with most statistics or data science books centered around a software). That is, it contains very little, if any, mathematical basis or details of the methods being discussed. These days, statistics is taught "thorough" a software. Hence, it is artificial to separate mathematical statistics from computational aspects. I am waiting for a book which will start with the mathematical aspects including derivations of the theorems/equations, give examples of real world applications, and illustrate the application in R.One minor issue is related to very poor quality of the binding of the book. In the copy that I received, perhaps the pasting was defective, and as soon as I first opened it, the first page tore off. Soon, the binding opened up and pages/sections started falling off. I am not sure if this is just limited to the copy that I got or is a systemic issue.

Overall quite a fan and recommend the book! I am a graduate student who was struggling with some analyses, and this provided a great overview on the code + logic behind the analyses in a way that helped me get what I needed to do done quickly (quicker than looking up internet sources). Seems like it's going to be a great reference to have on hand at all times when putting R into practice with research. The one thing (thus far) I am disappointed with is that the code for graphs isn't complete -- frequently will say that the following code produces graph #xyz. However, the code really only produces the most basic version of the graph in the book, and they don't include the extra code for ACTUALLY reproducing (which would be handy if new to graphs and trying to figure out some basic formatting manipulations without a lot of work)

Excellent book . If you are new to Data Analysis it will more than meet your needs. The first few chapters copy basic R , input , output , data types. If you already know R , you will find that a quick review will show you ways to upload most any type of data including Excel spreadsheets.Chapters 7 on actually cover college level statistics including one-way and two-way tables, t-tests, regression . For statistical reference and data modeling the graphics that are included use the latest library's so you won't be wasting time trying to write your own functions. Chapters 12 on are pretty advanced statistics with real world examples.

I am a graduate with master degree in a top-ranked university in US. I bought this book because I wanted to change my career. My background is I had two graduate-level statistical classes in my program. However, after review this book, I find the content is much better than my courses. I paid more than 10 thousand dollars to the two courses!!!!Don't waste you money for the degree! This book is much better than these courses.

Bobby Brown's book is an excellent read. I read this book in three days. I found myself unable to put it down. Bobby has been labeled as a bad boy and people want to blame him for what has happened. I remember once I saw an interview with his former wife Whitney Houston and she stated from her own mouth how everyone wants to blame Bobby for everything and she stated "I may be worse than he is". In any event, whatever you feel about the situation read the book to get his perspective. You will laugh and cry your eyes out. Loved it.

Sometimes, I view this world as one big illusion. You just don't know what to believe in a world full of trickery ,lies, greed, egos and deceit. The social media can be a monster....Never take anything for face value. I always admired Bobby Brown. He has this unique charisma that always told me he isn't as bad as they painted him to be. He was young, dumb, full of .... with a pocket full of dollars. What I admired most, he wore his life on his sleeves. He didn't pretend to be something he was not. He was an independent hot head with an ego....He only knew what he knew.... but he eventually grew and still learning....I enjoyed this book. It gives him the opportunity to share his side of the many stories that have floated around for decades. I also love Whitney. Although, I did see a side of her I had no idea when Bobby had the reality tv show, Being Bobby Brown. She hid it well. Thus, making him look like the worse of the bunch. This was a quick read and I like how he added photos in the back of the book. I would recommend this book. Bobby will always be King in eyes. Many blessings to him and his entire family. I wish them well.

Bobby Brown is an amazing performer and entertainer, period. But I had NO idea of the all the pain and tragedy he went through in his life. While reading you can't help but feel Bobby through his words. This book brings truth, honestly, laugher and tears....it also answers all questions. Thanks for sharing your story Bobby Brown.

I enjoyed this book: Bobby is a likable guy and the narrative moves quickly. I wish the book had been a bit longer, it felt like there were some areas that he rushed through like the early New Edition years and his marriage to Whitney. Sharing his experiences and thoughts on the deaths of both Whitney and Bobbi Kristina was brave and pretty emotional to read. All in all I enjoyed this book: it was very simple and to the point with just enough juicy material to keep you engrossed. Good job Bobby.

Bobby Brown is such a captivating person who has an equally captivating story. To go through what he has gone through in his life especially the last 7 years or so and to make it out in 1 piece with your right mind is proof that God is real. He had a hell of a life. I also liked that his friends such as Ralph Tresvant, his siblings, current wife, baby mama and kids also were able to tell their sides of how they saw and interpreted situations. Ralph said something in the book that I had never thought of before reading this book, he said "the real character of a person is how your children feel about you, that's who you really are and Bobby's kids are crazy about him and that's why someone like Whitney could fall in love with him".

You have read the stories in the tabloids. It was great to hear his side of the story. He touches on everything from His marriage to Whitney, their divorce, his career, losing his daughter, his other kids. There isn't apart of his life he doesn't touch upon. I have so much respect for the man that he is, owning up to his mistakes and taking responsibility. He has lead a fascinating and sometimes tragic life. I'm so happy he was willing to share it with us. Highly recommend, fast read I couldn't put it down.

I just finished reading this book four days ago, and I have to say that Bobby Brown sure knows how to write a page turner.I've been a Bobby Brown fan since I was a kid back in the 1990s, so I knew what I was getting when I purchased this book here on Amazon.One of the best things about this book was that Bobby was honest, as he wasn't interested in making this book a puff piece or a book to make him look like a saint.In this book he discussed his passion for his family, his distaste for the Houston family (especially after he and Whitney got divorced; and trust me, after you read this book you'll have distaste for the Hosuton family too), the ups and downs of his life as an entertainer, how he met his current wife Alicia Etheredge, and more.At the end of the day Bobby was a great entertainer as a solo artist and with New Edition, and he always lived his life on his own terms. The way he lived his life didn't sit too well with a lot of people (including New Edition and his critics) and Bobby didn't care.But it's 2019 now, and Bobby isn't the guy he was back in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. He's a family man now and I'm glad he's happy and out of the Hollywood scene.

Great insight and storytelling by Bobby Brown. I'm so glad he decided to tell his side of the story. I always felt like he was unfairly slandered by Whitney's family for so many decades and maligned as if he alone was the problem in his marriage to Whitney. Bobby is many things, and he'll be the first to tell you that he was no angel, but I do believe he loved his ex-wife and he did all he could to help her. The media and Whitney's family should be ashamed for pushing such a false, slanderous narrative for so many years. Great read.

I give the book two stars. One star is because there were some nuggets of good advice regarding positive communication skills & techniques, owning your feelings, and being kind to yourself. The second star is because I was so incensed by the book I couldn’t put it down. It’s been a while since I’ve read something that made me feel so strongly to the point of marking up the margins with comments.While they pay lip service to the fact that monogamy might be right for some, the entire book has an underlying tone of condescension insinuating that if you do not embrace non-monogamy you have been brainwashed by society into unnatural confines and if you don’t break free from those confines you are not adventurous or revolutionary enough.The authors share a bit of their dysfunctional past that led them to swear of monogamy and become ethical sluts. They make a lot of effort to rationalize their hedonistic lifestyle. It seems most of the anecdotes in the book are based on lust and not love. There is no discussion of emotional commitment, basically when you fall out of lust with someone; it’s time to move on. Oh, but those previous lustful relationships can evolve into business partnerships or friendships! So that’s good news.A large portion of the book focuses on the idealistic notion that all the lovers should live in harmony and create a tribe in which to raise children. The authors use the word “tribe” on more occasions than necessary to describe this “extended family.” News flash: you can still have a community to raise your children without all the adults screwing around with each other.The situations described seem like unnecessary drama and exhaustion; creating a shared calendar, your lover drinking the last of your husband’s milk, figuring out other ways to be intimate because your partner used up his erections on someone else, dealing with your feelings of jealousy while your partner is on a date with someone else, ad nauseam.My biggest pet peeves in the book were the authors’ statement of facts without citation and the recurrent use of the word “many” without quantification.The authors are all about “going where your libido takes you” and evidently they apply the same stream of consciousness approach to their writing style. The book could have easily been 50 pages less and got the same message across. If I hadn’t personally known polyamorous people prior to reading this book I would have left with a bad taste in my mouth about the entire idea because of the authors’ haughty idealism of “abundance” and “free love”.I can understand how polyamory might be sustainable to some but not without a cost (emotional, physical, time, financial). Of course neither is monogamy without cost, but the more stakeholders at play, the more complicated balancing competing desires and priorities becomes. I can understand how other forms of non-monogamy can have a season in one’s life as well.But at the end of the day, as a mature adult, one must decide who and what they want to go home to.

Very informative and useful. The authors really know whereof they speak! They've been there and learned from experience. Personal and practical, this book is from the heart. The style is very clear, simple and understandable, not academic, literary or "shrink-speak".Amazingly they DEFINE EVERY unusual term they use, and they point out when popular usage has been changing recently, and when some people use the term differently. Few authors manage that. It's very readable, even by anyone new and clueless like me, so it's a perfect introduction. But its CONTENT is so detailed and comprehensive that it would be a great college-level textbook, if any college gave courses in how to achieve and maintain marital and deep-relationship bliss.I recommend it unreservedly for anyone interested in keeping a monogamous or other serious relationship happy and healthy, WHETHER OR NOT either of you are also attracted to others. (And I usually want to ARGUE with authors.) When I've discussed ideas from this book that "I wish were not so", experienced poly people just nod or shrug and say "Yeah, it IS like that.")It's even readable by old, inhibited sticks-in-the-mud like me! You have to decide whether you could give it to your mother to explain "This lifestyle is not like you think it is!" but the only way the book could be made more accessible to squares would be to sissify some of the language. And I think they made a good choice to call a spade a spade.

This book should be called, "The Epic Tome of Human Relationships". It's title can be off-putting for some, but I guarantee the meat of the book is MORE than worth it. Written by two women, the book covers the full spectrum of all human relationships from friendships to romances and everything in between. It's worth noting that while the book encourages self-exploration and self-discovery of one's own sexuality it also supports those who find themselves to be monogamous.Truly, it is a book for all Humans.

I read this book and it gave me words to describe what I have been through for the first time. My husband and I opened our relationship up a while back. I wish I could have had this book through that whole time. It really puts everything I have learned about having a healthy, open, honest relationship into paper form. It is very much worth the read for anyone understanding the non-monogamous world or is interested in opening their relationship. The section on jealousy everyone should read whether monogamous or not.

A lot of good advice can be obtained from this book. The writing style is very "preachy" in my opinion, so you may want to take things with a grain of salt and keep an open mind. I've also heard it referred to as "hippy-ish" writing, which I think matches as well. Definitely worth a read though if you're looking to understand yourself and others around you.

Great book. Not only was it pertinent to the non-monogamous realm, but also a great book about self-love, self-care and open communication. I read it twice - once on Audible, and another with the book to highlight important passages. Definitely recommend.

Even if the immediate "slut" aspect isn't your jive, this book has a lot of good information about interpersonal dynamics.

An interesting perspective and way to view poly relationships and otherwise. A good read for anyone considering one or opening up their relationship.
