David Powlison, MDiv, PhD, is Executive Director of CCEF and a counselor with over thirty years of experience. At present, there are three volumes in the "Good News for Little Hearts" series which seeks to help kids and parents face anxiety, failure, and anger in a God-honoring way. While these animal stories don't quite have the enduring charm of classics such as the Beatrix Potter books, Little Bear, or Frog and Toad and some conversations between characters seemed to come off a little unnatural (and maybe even a little "preachy") at times, my little ones enjoyed them. The volumes are sturdy and full of creative, vibrantly-colored illustrations. Each book concludes with tips for further helping your child and four "Back Pocket Bible Verses" in the New Living Translation that you can cut out and give to your child.Zoe's Hiding Place: When You Are Anxious begins in a mouse house and contains some of my favorite illustrations. The mouse house contains all kinds of treasures lending itself well to an "I Spy" game. Unfortunately, content-wise, it was my least favorite. It reminded me of the type of moralistic Christian books with which I grew up. While Jesus was mentioned by name, the Gospel wasn't clearly proclaimed. This book makes it seem as if God is with everyone for good all of the time and doesn't make any distinction between those who are His people and those who are not. However, that being said, the book does lend itself well to a Gospel presentation. You'll just want to continue the story by explaining to your kids that the reason why a holy God never leaves or forsakes His children in spite of their sin is because Jesus was forsaken in place of all who would believe and bore the penalty for their sins when He died on the cross and that Jesus didn't remain forsaken but was raised from the dead on the third day and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God the Father making intercession for us and that He sends the Holy Spirit to dwell within all who trust in Him. All in all, Zoe's Hiding Place is an okay title but not my favorite of the bundle.Altogether, the three titles in this series are useful picture books that will serve adults as they seek to minister to children in their lives and help them to better image and glorify their Creator and Savior, Jesus Christ.Many thanks to New Growth Press for sending me complimentary copies! This book varies little from the others that Strobel has written with his statement of the obvious "Next I decided I had to visit and interview, none other than the leading expert on..." :) know what I mean?

Lee Strobel's "A Case for Christ" was highly instrumental in leading me to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord & Savior. Coming from a scientific background, I was also skeptical about this whole "religion thing". However, the methodical scientific approach and evidence he discovered in his search for the truth, convinced me it is far more logical to place my faith in Jesus than not. I can do nothing but highly recommend this book and the movie if you are searching for the truth about Jesus Christ.

Lee was an Atheist, and his wife, an Agnostic.What makes this book so interesting, even as a believer, is the fact that Lee, former legal editor for the Chicago Tribune, embarked on a 2 year investigation into the reality of Christ. Was Jesus who He said He was? Did He really exist in the flesh? Are the biblical accounts just made up? Were there eye witness testimonies to miracles that supposedly happened through Jesus? Can groups of people maintain eye witness accounts without those stories becoming totally altered after passing down through even the first 20 people let alone generations?The really great thing about Lee's "investigation" was that he set out to prove that his wife, who became a believer, and all the rest of us, were caught up in a huge scam. Experts in the fields where Lee's questions could be addressed were engaged in this quest. This book is not fiction!Also, the movie, if you see it, does a great job of summarizing the whole investigation, and you get to "meet" those who were called on to fully answer Lee's questions, and they are not actors.

It's hard to rate this book with only 5 stars. I was raised a Mormon. After leaving the cult due to the Mormon inconsistencies and contradictions I found myself in a state of limbo. I didn't know what to believe. I knew that a God existed but wasn't sure if it was the Christian God, the many many Hindu gods or maybe some deity that was unknown and impersonal.The Case for Christ was a critical look at Christianity from the perspective of an atheist. Lee Strobel left no stone unturned. He tackled the historicity of the person Jesus, the resurrection account, miricals and every objection to which I wanted answers.

Well written and logical. A must for anyone investigating the validity of the claims of the Gospel.

I am a christian. My parents were born again long before I was born. My father was immensely and I mean it, immensely transformed after receiving christ. We prayed three times a day, and I was a firm beleiver in Christ simply by reading the bible and listening to men of God. Mama always spoke vividly about the Kingdom yet to come. It is the happiest time of my parents lives, speaking about Christ. I therefore knew christ without reviewing the evidence. Reviewing the evidence in this book has given me a new drive and commitment to the cause and now I am altogether stronger and better grounded. I wish I had read this book years ago! I would definately have had better use of my time witnessing for christ.

Author Lee Strobel makes the statement quoted above at the end of this book. To him, the witness of the Spirit to us through an encounter with Christ is the ultimate confirmation of the truths proposed and taught by Christianity.Before this, he spends 14 chapters in the book looking at common objections some people present for why they do not believe that Jesus is truly God as Christians believe. Strobel--who was once himself a nonbeliever/atheist--refutes the objections and is convinced that the objections are baseless. His arguments convinced me, too, but not all of the chapters were as important to me as the others. We all come to acceptance or rejection of Jesus as God from different places, and unless we are set in our thinking against the truth of Christian revelation, it seems to me that at least some of Strobel's reasons should prove to be persuasive. I have known people, however, who are so set in their opposition to accepting the divinity of Christ that I doubt this book (or any others) will make a difference. (I had a friend in college who was so wounded by life while a child that he turned against God in anger and identified as an atheist. He refused to consider any arguments for Christ and the Church and had build up a wealth of reasons why he was correct.)This book should also be helpful to those who already believe in Christ because it presents many arguments and reservations by those opposed to belief in Christ. Knowing the arguments and sensible reasons against them can help Christians understand those opposing Christ and gives believers understanding of how to counter those arguments.I agree with Strobel about the importance of the Spirit revealing the truth to us. While I was somewhat catechized and taught about Christian truths as a child (as much as a post-Vatican II child could be!) and didn't have great objections to belief, my faith was not deep and wasn't really important to me. Confirmation of my belief came to me as I encountered Christ though Scripture, prayer, the Church and sacraments (especially the Eucharist), and the community of believers. My now long pilgrimage in seeking to know Christ and understand him has led to deeper faith and a more joyful experience of it. Over time, indifference and questions I once had melted away. At times the "melting" was quite rapid; at other times, quite slow. But I persevered and my pilgrimage continues and enriches my life more as time passes. And I think that through me, my faith is also enriching the lives of others too. As Sister Pat says, "Thank you, Jesus."

Full disclosure: This graphic novel popped into my radar only because the TV adaptation has Lana Condor. So, yeah, I came to it with the idea about a cool assassin school, which I assume is a lot like a cool spy school, only with more murder and dismemberment. And yeah, it does get there for a bit, but the story is mainly about Marcus, a first-generation Nicaraguan-American kid, who has had a hard life, being an orphan, bouncing around foster homes (some which may have been abusive), and finally a homeless kid with a rap sheet and an incentive to hide. When he is approached by the Kings Dominion School, he is pretty much out of choices, and his ambiguous morality means he is not entirely averse to killing, so he agrees to become a student, learn the deadly arts and some day hope to kill Ronald Reagan.Marcus, as an outsider in a school of legacy kids, finds his place among the outcasts, but he is also a novelty to the other kids who can’t decide if they fear him or want to bully him. To be honest, the school is mostly a background, and there are a few panels showing what life is like there, and introduces the cliques (which includes kids of cops, spies, mobsters, and even Neo-Nazis), but that is it. Most of the story in this first volume takes place outside it, what with his backstory, and then first test and the wild weekend (that ends in murder) that these kids have. It also occasionally goes into the backstories of the secondary characters. The artwork lends to that gritty dark atmosphere this book sets up, and the coloring scheme also recalls a noir-ish vibe. The character design seems okay, but lacks consistency for some, like Marcus (in some panels he looks larger and some like the 14 year old he is supposed to be).On the whole, I am interested in the story, both of Marcus and his friends, and what deadly adventures they will seek in the future.

Many times I have longed for extra strength as a wife, mother, a caregiver, and now as an octogenarian with limited strength! Having purchased and read many of Robert J. Morgan's books, articles, and blogs, especially enjoying his hymn stories, I immediately pre-ordered this new book and pronounce it "Perfect"! Just exactly what I needed and I know you will agree as you consider twelve of the numerous strength passages in the Bible, carefully selected by Robert and his wife Katrina, and certain to bring readers comfort. Each of the twelve chapters are filled with Bible verses, stories from both the Old and New Testament that were new to me, and may be new to you as well; personal observations, poems, hymns, quotations, and so much more. I have underlined, re-read, memorized, and marveled at how many times God has promised to strengthen us if we ask. Pastor Morgan discovered 232 passages in the Bible relating to God's willingness to bestow extra strength on those who trust in Him. I greatly appreciate this book and have purchased more copies as gifts for friends. Thank you Morgans for sharing your lives and your testimony as well as your Bible research.

This book is my new favorite! I'll be buying them all year long for gifts because who doesn't need a source of strength? Morgan take some passages I'm familiar with and puts them in the context in which they were written - giving a better perspective on old familiar words. His wife's input on each chapter adds poignancy to our struggle to keep up strength. So helpful!!

Crisis seems to be the word of the day. Daily I'm confronted with my own, a friend's or the world's crisis. It's draining and there are days it seems I can't take another step! I am so thankful for this reminder, that I have the strength needed to do what I'm called to do. I don't have to muster it up, I need to stay connected to the power source and walk in the strength that is mine.This is a must read for every believer!

I have not been disappointed with this book by Robert Morgan. It is an easy to read and reflect upon volume. The contributions from his wife at the end of the chapters highlight the closeness of the two and how his ministry has been THEIR ministry as they've faithfully gone through life challenges together. The 12 strength passages the book highlights are indeed words to cling to during challenging times in life.

I bought the book based on a radio interview with the author. The first few chapters were excellent and convinced me it would make a good read for my friends and I to read together. We really liked Robert Morgan's layout of each chapter that includes some biblical history, a biography, and compelling anecdotes. His writing style is literary but easy to read and very enjoyable. This is a very practical book - applying scriptural truth to our life situations. I've had several opportunities to share with others the powerful truths Morgan presents.

As with any book that properly expounds the word of God this one by Pastor Morgan and his wife Katrina has been a path to finding strength in and from the God who loves me. It has come at a perfect time since life's struggles have been mounting this year...I would recommend this book to any who's heart is weary on the journey.

Recommend this book to anyone who is going through a tough time. The verses are just what I needed and his writing inspiring

Loved the book. I just can't say enough about the author, Catherine Coulter does it again.

Warning! Don't start this one at night if you expect to go to sleep. This is a fast paced read you will not be able to put down until you finish it, at least that was the case for me. I picked it up late Saturday afternoon and finished it early Sunday morning before I was able to finally go to bed. Sleep, no way! This is a thought provoking and spine tingling thriller and crazy, crazy fast paced. It takes place over only 4 days (I think) and WOW, a lot happens through these pages. Dr. Nevaeh Patel, a former astronaut is convinced she was saved by aliens while on a space walk and now she must release an EMP that was launched on a satellite and that along with the Holy Grail that was recently discovered can save her and give her immortality (seriously). This brings in FBI Special Agents Dummond and Caine and it is their job to stop this and they are at their best in this one. Hang on to your bits as you are reading this one! This one thrill ride after another and a fast one too!**Received this ARC for review from the publisher via NetGalley**
