As an artist, color is a thing of magic in my life. Color creates shapes, forms, and feelings in the artworks I paint. Laying color onto a blank page is when I feel closest to true magic, when I feel happiest and most relaxed, and it's through what I create that I share my love of magic with the world.Through my coloring books I want to share that same magic with you. The artworks in my books are based on my completed paintings, which I have painted over the last ten years as a professional artist. I have created the coloring designs to be intricate and detailed but still fun and accessible. There is something for lovers of meditative detail while simple enough to not be overwhelming for younger colorists.  When designing my books I decided to print them with two copies of each design, because I know as an artist there are always so many possibilities! I wanted to give everybody the chance of a do-over with every design. Try a different medium, or a different colour scheme. Or a chance to share the magic with a friend, child, parent, sibling. Because sharing your creativity and joy of color is the best magic of all.Â

I really like Selina Fenech's artwork and am absolutely thrilled with her take on Victorian Romance. It appears that the artwork is inspired by her series of novels called “The Memory's Wakeâ€. I just picked up the first volume of the series and will enjoy reading it as I color in this coloring book.The designs, which are detailed and have some intricate and small areas to color, follow in a story format with the brief story excerpt or summary printed on the facing page. Thus, the designs are printed on the front of the page and there is a continuing story printed on the back of the page. If you use bleed-through media (see below), it will disfigure the story but it should remain readable.The figures in the designs are beautiful and the settings are quite lush. It definitely evokes the look and feel of Victorian Romance novels that I have in my mind.This is what I discovered while coloring in this book and testing my coloring medium on the paper:25 x 2 each (total of 50 pages) beautiful line drawing designs based on Victorian Romance by Selina FenechPrinted one side of the pagePaper is typical inexpensive quality used by CreateSpace: white, thin, slightly rough and non-perforated.The designs do not extend into the binding area. The designs have double framing lines at the outer edgesGlue BindingAlcohol-based markers bleed through the page quickly.Water-based markers bleed through in spots.Gel pens and India ink pens leave shadows on back of the page. India ink can bleed through if you apply heavily or multiple coats.Coloring Pencils work well with this paper. I found that I could layers the same color for deeper pigment or multiple colors and I could blend easily using a blending stick. I tested both oil and wax based pencils. I also found that hard lead pencils leave dents through the paper.I like to use a blotter when working in the book. I use a page of card stock or several sheets of heavyweight paper under my working page. It keeps seeping ink and marring dents from ruining the pages below.
Subject Matter: 4/5Some aren't exactly "victorian" but all beautiful, no less than what you expect from Ms. Fenech. I own a few of her coloring books and see this one is a bit different, often has multiple characters in each scene. (Have not read Memory's wake)Paper/Binding: 3.5/5Average paper for these type of coloring books. Images are printed one-side only, and that is a huge plus for me, as I use alcohol based markers.Coloring Medium: 3.5/5Again, as I stated above paper is not very thick - markers bleed through sometimes, and if you try to color small narrow areas with markers you will get some feathering. Gel pens and colored pencils are fine.Total: 4/5, Still wish the paper was a bit thicker though.Not more, not less from what I expected. The reason I wrote this review is that if you are her fan you will like it. By no means it is 'pornographic' like that one bad review. I just wish paper was a bit thicker but Ms. Fenech's books almost always come with 2 sets of design, a feat no one else does you really can't complain.
This book goes along with Selina's novels: Memory's Wake Omnibus, but can be colored as stand alone. Each page has a part of the novel that goes with the image. As with her other coloring books there are two sets of images.I bought this coloring book because I adore her other coloring books. Then I decided I to read the novels too. The first one in the series is available free for the kindle.
5/5 for image quality, I absolutely love the art, and the artists work is always stunning!3/5 for paper quality, in the last colouring book I’ve purchased “GOTHIC DARK FANTASY†from Selina Fenech, had thicker paper. Therefore I thought this was how all books would be, but this paper was almost as thin as printer paper. It is not as lovely quality and I’m very scared to use my alcohol markers on them in case of ruining the picture.So overall I rate this book, 4/5 with its beautiful art, but lack luster paper quality.
I love Selinas books. The pages are always so beautiful. Bold lines and wonderful to work with I love coloring her pages using eye shadows...
I am very pleased with this coloring book. The pictures are inticing and a nice change of pace from all the fairies.I highly recommend this book as well as all the other books by Ms. Fenech, they are a delight to color.
Beautiful drawings and pictures, even the texture of the paper is great for all pencils and gel pens and markers. The pictures are filled up on the pages and the drawing have a lot of detail. The only thing I dislike is that the pages are repeated. I notice that a lot of coloring books have done this. I don't think its fair to the consumer after spending so much money for a coloring book.
I love selenas art, this book has so msny lovely pictures.As an artist when i feel blocked I usually color these to practice blending usung cheaper prismas of course.I have got these for friends who arent artists they love them just as much.
