At times you should follow your heart rather than your mind. The last volume of Don Rosa's compilation of Donald/Scrooge stories rhythms with the same mindset. The stories are all based on Uncle Scrooge's adventure (except one), many of which are among the longest compiled by Don. Compare it to other volumes, there are only six titles featured in this story which is lesser than any of the previous volumes. The plots of the stories are more involved, well articulated and thought provoking which makes them addictive to read - but a word of caution - read them with a peaceful state of mind to get the full flavor out of it.The book begins "Dream of a Lifetime" the plot of which Don admittedly got from one of his fans. This story has been so much compared with the concept in the famous movie "Inception" but was almost a decade ahead of the later. Well, Donald Duck/Uncle Scrooge did invent a few thing ahead of times and there is nice page about it on google. This is just being one of them !"Trash or Treasure" the smallest and the most lightweight gag in the volume is based on Scrooge's ability to find out value out of almost anything. Although, at one point we have heard scrooge saying that he has the old coins in his bin because of their monetary value and memories associated with them, yet here we see Scrooge making something of out an antique."The Old Castle's Other Secret" is a sequel to Carl Bark's "The Old Castle's Secret". It is also a sequel to Don's own story "The Crown of the Crusader Kings" which gave an indication that the Templar's Treasure should be a possession of clan McDuck. But unlike usual adventures of Uncle Scrooge there is a twist to the tale in the end when he discovers a letter written by his father addressed to him during the treasure hunt. Don also gave a nice puzzle to solve on the cover page of the story apart from his 'DUCK' dedication."The Black Knight Glorps Again!" is a sequel to Don's own stories "The Black Knight" & "The Universal Solvent" on the famous thief "Arpin Lusene", this time Scrooge getting rid of the solvent dipped armor and accessories all together by sending it out to space. The proceedings of the story is somewhat similar to the previous one but Don's art makes it equally enjoyable to read. It appears that Don might have had a future for this sequel in his mind because he makes Lusene keep an eye on the armor on the orbit as well. We will never know !To me, "The Magnificent Seven (Minus 4) Caballeros" is one of the best stories in the volume because this involves finding out treasures in South America other than the Inca one. It is only a befitting tribute to a country like Brazil that has so much of wonders to offer and making Donald visit it to regain his adventurous spirit and more importantly his smile was a great plot. Besides, this is the only exclusive Donald Duck story in this volume. Donald's rendezvous with his old pal's Panchito Pistoles and Jose Carioca ended in a great archaeological find of the era !The last, and probably one of the most romantic period of Scrooges way to fame, "The Prisoner of White Agony Creek" showcases the emotional entanglement between Scrooge and Glittering Goldie in a very delicate yet finely woven story line. This is definitely something that has taken Don a lot of thought and research to showcase the non materialistic aspects of life in a storytelling fashion. And for the first time, when asked by his nephew what is Scrooge's most precious possession and everyone taking a guess at it, they are all wrong ! There is definitely one thing that I noticed about the art in this story, the makeup of mountains is strikingly similar to the one drawn by Herge in "Tintin in Tibet". But while Herge's overall style was much cleaner, Don gives way more details in his panels.The supplemental material includes all the pinup posters, all the "Hall of Fame" pictures, individual discussion of the stories by Don and a gag that features Don himself. 10 volumes to make it a complete collection, a blast of laughter, adventure, history, science and geography all blended into mesmerizing stories.

Mr. Rosa's stories are more intensive than Carl Barks version of his Duck tales. He is as close to the old master that we are likely to find. I find his stories a little tiring to read, they do not sing like Barks stories did, but I am not as young as I use to be. Very enjoyable, in a time when children comics for all ages have gone past. Barks stories had different layers for different age readers. The Ducks were very lucky in their writers. They were the best.

Great stories, great artwork. Don Rosa is 1 of a kind in the comics business. Very imaginative and creative.

It arrived two and a half hours before the max time. It was everything as was it was shown on amazon. First rate work.

The National Geographic Little Kids books are favorites in our house. The Big Book of Dinosaurs and the World Atlas are already among our most read books, so I was excited to add this book to our collection. People often critique these books for not going into enough detail, however, I have found that they have the perfect amount of detail for little children. This book got my 3 year old boy and 6 year old girl thinking and asking questions about all sorts of people and inventions and places. They have asked to get books from the library about some of the people written about here; I even found myself learning new things. It's a nice change from the worlds of princesses and trucks that I find so many of their books are about these days. This book is full of real photos and maps, which quickly grabbed my children's attention. My 4 year old is reading and I wanted to find him nonfiction text. These National Geographic books are perfect for his reading level! The pictures are informative and engaging and the text itself is well written and easy to follow. I have purchased at least 10 of these books and my son loves them. The book itself is super sturdy too. Love that the font is large.

I bought this book on a recommendation from other civil engineers who passed the Civil PE, and I’m glad I purchased it. This book helped me pass on my first try. My method of studying for the PE exam was doing as many practice problems as I could get my hands on, and this book does a great job of presenting the material, and organizing it in a useful way. I found the CERM a bit overwhelming for learning concepts. This book is much easier to learn from, and uses notation that I am familiar with.I highly recommmend buying this book for the AM depth portion of the exam. I used this book the most during my studies, as well as on test day. I found it useful for the geotechnical depth as well. I only used the CERM for more obscure lookups on topics I’m not used to seeing on test day. I would also recommend buying Goswami’s practice exam book for additional problems to work on.

The book is helpful for about 20% of the morning AM exam and is completely useless for the PM exam. This book is outdated and full of errors.I took the author's review course, most of the time during the evenings, he seemed very tired and covered problems from his book. He also solved a number of past problems. I failed the April 2017 exams, but his course gave me the kickstart I needed after I've been out of class since 1994 when I completed my bachelor's degree, I owned up, he didn't fail me, I failed myself, plain and simple. When I told professor I failed, he never replied to me. I wondered what happened to... if you are unsuccessful in your attempt, you'll get the next program for free. He kept quiet and never said a word.I decided to take the exams again in October 2017, this time I said no more review course, I bought the SERM, read it and solve all the problems from front cover to the back cover. This time I passed. I told the professor, he just gave me a congrats with my name misspelled.To pass your PE, all you need is the latest CERM, and if your PM exam is Structures, then get the SERM as well plus your codes.

This book was well worth it and so much cheaper than the alternative. I used it from the beginning of my studies. I had a CERM borrowed from work and realized that was way too much and too confusing when I started studying. Granted I did put in a lot of studying hours mostly doing problems from Goswami's problem sets (which are much harder than the test), but I can say that this book is all I needed for the morning and afternoon geotech.I recommended this book to a few people and they all agree that's what they should have used the first time.Keep in mind though, that for Geotech, a lot of it is theory, concept and experience. So, if you're relying on this book to teach you that, you might be in trouble. You need to go back to your school notes, labs, field work etc... for a refresher on that.

I didn't find anything in this book to be better than the CERM (civil engineering reference manual). I ended up using some of the study guide from the same author though.Ryan's guide to passing the PE exam:Recommended resources: Civil PE exam secrets to review / teach concepts, CERM (i used a 4 year old edition, just get the most second most recent copy used unless you need code information for structural concentration), and as many editions of the official NCEES sample questions as possible. Do NOT use the huge practice problem book from the publisher of the CERM. It is a waste of your time.Print a copy of the official NCEES test description. Check off the concepts when you have reviewed them (i recommend the civil pe secrets book).After you have reviewed the concepts, start doing practice problems. Get quick at them. Bring these practice problems and your worked out solutions (bound) in to the test with you. Highlight and tab your CERM.You should pass no problemI took WRE and passed it first time even though i didn't sleep for 30 hours before the test started. I probably studied between 40 and 60 hours. I did not take a review course.

Hands down the best prep for the PE exam. I know it sounds like an exaggeration let me explain why. The Lindberg book is the size of a phone book with a layout like an encyclopedia or a medical textbook. No engineering book follows such a convoluted format. Goswami's book is set following basic concepts to complex details. I was able to read the entire book cover to cover and get a sense of being able to understand all the subjects on the PE. The book includes some great practice problems that are only a little harder than the NCEES practice exam questions but easier than the horrible 6 Minute Solutions. The book has an easy to follow index and you are able to use this book much more efficiently than Lindberg. I have thoroughly compared the geotech section in Lindberg to Goswami's and for example; on the Shallow square foundations Lindberg gives you the the general formula with values to modify the equation for a square foundation. Goswami gives you the formula for a square foundation without confusing you no values to modify. Also Goswami gives you a table with more values for Phi instead of having you interpolate like Lindberg. There might be some complex detail lacking for the depth section of the PE. It would be impossible to include this in the book. Sort of what Lindberg tried to do and failed. So you still need advanced section references.The Lindberg book was really expensive. Honestly I could have done without it. Just buy Goswami's guide and get reference materials for the in depth section. Buy early edition reference books and the whole package should run you about 400 for geotech. Half if you got Lindbergs.Goswami also gives a great review class for the PE google his name. You study before hand from this book and ask him tough questions in a webminar. I talked to people that took school of PE and that class is basically for people that are unable to study. The school of PE class goes over formulas and theories. Don't waste your time studying in a class. Do it beforehand and troubleshoot hard questions with Goswami. Goswami is a Structural PE at Morgan State in Maryland. No other class has a PhD teaching it. Oh and did I mention Goswami's class is half of what school of PE charges and about 1/3 of what the Test café rip off charges.

Description of the item says it is a 12"x12" calendar. We received a mini wall calendar 7"x7". Returning as it is not what was described.

This is a MINI calendar, seller should update listing

I bought this calendar as a gift for my fiancée. He was also disappointed about it being smaller than advertised, but the pictures are great, so I can let it slide.However, the not-so-subtle racism I cannot ignore. Looking at the cover, who happens to be absent from the picture? Cyborg. Look at the pictures inside, which superhero appears only once? Again, Cyborg.Every other hero appears in the cover and in more than 1 picture inside. Wonder Woman in 4, Batman in 4, Superman in 3, Flash in 2, and Aquaman in 2.The only African American superhero in the group just happens to be absent in the cover and appear just once inside. Oversite? No. Racism? Yes.DC is not racist, but some of the people who worked on this calendar most certainly are. Its sad to see even the superhero genre isn’t free of racist individuals.

The pictures are great. The calendar lost a star for being a mini hanging calendar. The days and day numbers are a bit hard to see but honestly who buys this type of calendar to see the dates? We buy it to stare at the pictures and thing back to what a great movie Justice League was.

This large wall calendar unfolds to 22" long. The pictures are excellent. Very well done.

this is a small calender. The description specifically says its 12". Total let down, as my 8 year old really was wanting this and its a gift from 'santa'.

Love the images. The description said page was 12" x 12", but I received the mini wall calendar instead.

Boyfriend loved it as a birthday gift back in January. Photography is stunning.

My oldest daughter is almost seven, and she is an avid reader. She prefers graphic novels to chapter books, and we are always looking for graphic novels with appropriate content for her. We found Hereville: How Mirka Got Her Sword at the library in the next town over. We enjoyed the book so much that we purchased our own copy. This graphic novel was written and illustrated by Barry Deutsch.Hereville is subtitled “Yet Another Troll-Fighting 11-Year-Old Orthodox Jewish Girl”, and this pretty much sums up the book. Mirka lives with her father and stepmother and blended siblings. Mirka lives in a Jewish enclave, and she is so sheltered from the world that she doesn’t recognize a pig when she sees one. The pig has been following Mirka because Mirka stole from the pig’s garden. The pig does whatever it can to make Mirka’s life miserable, like stealing her homework! But when Mirka intervenes and rescues the pig from boys who are tormenting it, the witch who owns the pig offers a reward: there is a sword in Hereville, but Mirka must defeat the troll who guards the sword. Does Mirka have what it takes to fight a troll?Deutsch uses a lot of Yiddish expressions, but he always provides a translation. I think that familiarity with the Orthodox culture helps understand the book, but it’s not mandatory. The book provides a fairly accurate portrayal of Orthodox Jewish life- except for the talking pig, etc. Readers will learn a lot about customs and traditions, and how they fit into Mirka’s personality.Hereville is a very clever book. In the first two pages, Mirka doesn’t want to do knitting, and debates with her stepmother about free will and preordination. This intellectual trend continues throughout the book. While I don’t want to give away the ending, I will say that when Mirka fights the troll, she doesn’t use weapons.The art style is fairly realistic, and the illustrations are enhanced by the use of the colored pages. Orange pages are used in daytime scenes, and blue pages are used at night. The body language and facial expressions are among the best I have seen.My daughter and I both enjoyed Hereville. My daughter liked the action and adventure, and I appreciated the intellectual slant. I found the book to be wry, and very clever.I would absolutely recommend Hereville: How Mirka Got Her Sword. The reading level is not very high, and this gives the book a broader appeal. Everyone from children in the middle years of elementary school to adults can enjoy Hereville. It’s got action, adventure, and humor- all with an Orthodox slant!

Probably the most noticeably unique aspect of this series is that it's set within an orthodox Jewish culture. But besides that it also gives you some delightfully individual personalities. There's Mirka, an eleven-year-old girl who wants more than anything to be a hero and slay monsters. Fruma, her stepmother, one of whose life goals appears to be teaching Mirka how to argue (or is it possibly teaching Mirka logical thinking?). And Mirka's various siblings and step-siblings who deal with her with varying degrees of frustration and success. Personally, I think their whole family would be fun enough to read about, but apparently Barry Deutsch wanted to give us something more, so we also have a crazy, magical adventure involving a witch, a pig, a troll, and some yarn. It's all wonderful, although my favorite part is probably the way Mirka does math.

I adore the Mirka stories! I honestly think I ought to write Barry Deutsch a personal thank you note. We have three daughters and a son and we have spent so many quality hours pouring over all three of his incredible graphic novels. I love my children getting to read about strong female characters with strong family ties. His humor is amazing! The art is awesome and so are the twists and turns of each novel (the time loop in the fish book, beyond incredible). We are also a family of faith and I love my children being able to read about other faith traditions (and even a few bits of Yiddish) and to see a bold, adventurous heroine also finding strength in her faith and her family's deep commitment to their Judaism.I can't recommend his books strongly enough.

A wonderfully fun (and funny) graphic novel that my reluctant 9 y.o. reader sat and read in one long sitting. She was thrilled to see characters with whom she could identify, and girls who looked and dressed and lived like her and her classmates. I've already bought her the next one, and will most likely by the third book in the not too distant future.

I bought a copy of this book for a girl who (Idk, I’m guessing) had no exposure to Hassidic Jews (small town Southern Baptist but her mom was was totally cool with the book). The young lady had said something about being about a poor speller and I think reading is the best way to fix that. The book is a great, wonderful graphic novel and fit the bill. I loved it, she loved it. A graphic novel about knitting? So awesomesauce!!!!!

Another writer mentioned this book to me, because my uncommon name is shared with the heroine, and is in the title. I HAD to get it.And in this case I can recommend this middle grade graphic novel to all, even if your name is nowhere in it. In fact, because it is set in a Jewish Shtetl (Yiddish for the Jewish part of town) and most of the names are Yiddish, it is unlikely many potential readers would find their names there.But what they will find is a cast of good characters, a riveting story, masterful drawing and a lot of Yiddish phrases strewn throughout. These are explained in an unobtrusive way, and are delightful.Oh, and the main character, Mirka, is a powerhouse of a girl. She's the sort girls and boys would be thrilled to spend a few hours with, and come back again to many more times.Try it, you'll like it. My grandma was right!

I *LOVE* the Hereville books. The detail in the illustrations, the style of illustration, is very appealing. The dialogue is great, the stories cover the spectrum of all emotions, from boredom, frustration, even horror, to joy, relief, and love. I read a lot of "religious approved" books, and I've never seen anything like this, it is at the same time such a blend of fun and exciting fantasy, together with real Observant Jewish life.

The book was helpful as a general overview of the sciences that need to be studied. It would have been better with more sample tests and sample questions. I took both tests and diligently compared my errors to the subject areas that I needed to work on. I studied mostly full time for about 2 weeks before taking the test. I read it on my Kindle while my computer had the text also available.I encountered questions that were similar to this book’s sample tests on the actual CLEP test and these were of about the same difficulty, although quite different in their content and structure. I got a 67 on the test, a passing score, and although I was quite familiar with several of the disciplines at one time, I had not studied most of these subjects for over 10 years. I think my score reflected more or less what I was scoring on the various exams I took. I have read Scientific American magazine diligently for many years and I think that may have also helped… Overall, I recommend the book as part of a larger study effort. I also used https : // modern states dot org to help me study. I heartily recommend this as does the CLEP write up on the w w w . college board. o r g site. Hope this helps…

The book is very informative and covers a good amount of information. Natural science is a very broad subject. about 60% of the questions on the actual test i took were not covered in this book or any other practice test i took.

There are dozens of aggravating and distracting typos throughout this book, some of which inhibit my comprehension of the actual sentences. Some of their facts are incorrect (and if an English major is picking up on your science mistakes, that's a huge problem!) and many of the questions on their practice exams refer to information NOT COVERED in the book itself. I have yet to take the CLEP exam, so I cannot say if this book was helpful in the end, but I am going to the CLEP site right now to buy THEIR review materials. It's been a long time since I studied this stuff, and this book just touches the surface of what's in the exam. Nothing too detailed. If you're preparing for CLEP using this book, make sure you studied the material not too long ago. If it has been a while, make sure you don't make this your primary resource. There are some good video lectures online that you could refer to in addition to this. This book seems to be aimed at just "getting you through". If you know you can do better, and genuinely want to do better, then I recommend this book just to skim over topics in the last few days, not to actually learn the material.By the way, the things other reviews mentioned about typos, factual errors, and practice exams referring to stuff not covered in the book. Totally true.

The Kindle edition is filled with typos. Many of them are easy to see, (for example; missingspaces between words) but, some of them are false statements. The false statements are only noticeable if you already know the true information; for example, "electrons have a charge of 21" the truth is they have a charge of -1. I worry that some of the information I've learned from the book is actually false.

Natural Sciences is a very broad subject, so while this book had a lot of informative content, nothing in it was on the CLEP examination I took (so it didn't prove very useful). Even the online practice tests contained questions not covered in the book. How to perform physics equations was also not explained much at all.

Pros: With the practice tests, it gives you a good feel of how the test is going to be.Cons: I am a biology major and so I have a lot more knowledge than this book has to offer. Some of the information it gives is not entirely accurate but it is good enough for this basic test. Also, the online test linked didn't work

I have not taken the exam yet, but I feel that the information about physics is not enough to be prepared for the exam, I might be wrong, because I don't know how deep the exam goes but I feel insecure taking the exam with only this information. I finish reading the physics portion in 3 days that's how short it is. Physics part of the exam in 50%, so you judge!!!

Beatrice Chestnut, PhD MA is a licensed psychotherapist, coach, and business consultant based in San Francisco. She has a PhD in communication studies and an MA in clinical psychology. Excellent book for all leaders to raise their consciousness and emotional intelligence. It will be most helpful for people who already know their type, or have a strong idea of what their type is. It will help you recognize your strengths, habits and motives and have a better understanding of the same for people around you. I love that it makes the point that we all have unique gifts and there isn't one "best" approach.I highly recommend if you have interest in the Enneagram, or use it in coaching / consulting.

Although I am not a huge fan of using the enneagram as a tool for “typing” in the workplace, I felt that Chestnut did a great job of reassuring readers of her same hesitiations. I felt she did really well reminding readers of the Enneagrams true intent and to not get lost in simply typing ourselves and even using that as a way to coach or critique others upon.

I think I must own just about every Enneagram leadership book ever published, and I have to say that Bea Chestnut’s new book, “The 9 Types of Leadership” is the best one I’ve come across. It’s insightful and thorough, as well as practical and pragmatic. I’m so impressed with it that I’m using it as part of the curriculum for a leadership academy I’m running at my organization. Good job, Bea!
