I am so excited to start davening using this siddur, because I don't yet read Hebrew and I want to learn the Hebrew words to the prayers! (Reading the English meaning is nice enough and all, but at some point you want to daven! And just listening to the others pray is not that helpful--the well-versed pray incredibly quickly!)The book is (physically) of the strong quality that Artscroll is known for. When you want a quality text, you can't go wrong with Artscroll!Textually, my only comment to potential purchasers is that the pages in the transliterated siddur do not match up with the pages in the non-transliterated siddur--and in fact, the prayers are organized a little differently so you couldn't even do the math by just subtracting 20 pages or something like that. Buyers will need some familiarity with the order of prayers and services in order to keep up.
Orthodox when I'm not, these siddurim are wonderful. You can enjoy the beautiful language; there's English as well as Hebrew. The Hebrew is also transliterated. Also, in the lower margins, there's a lot of information about the prayers themselves; how and why they are said. At the beginning of each chapter there are pages devoted to explaining the history and purpose of these prayers. Artscroll Siddurim are a beautiful addition to anyone's judaica collection.
Love the Siddur. It is a great addition to anyone, such as myself, who cannot read Hebrew quickly. This is a beautiful transliterated orthodox siddur. The only thing I don't like is that the pronunciations are all Ashkenazi instead of Sephardic. I still enjoy using it. This siddur is filled with information about the the history of the prayers and blessings. Great book.
First of all, I grew up in a totally assimilated part of Brooklyn, and couldn't read Hebrew to save my life. As a matter of fact, I even transliterated my entire Haftorah portion the night before my Bar Mitzvah, as my Hebrew reading level was around the level of a 1st grader, and it has stayed like that until I discovered this Siddur.I first was introduced to this Siddur about 4 years ago at the Manhattan Jewish Experience, a beginner's service on the Upper West Side.I was amazed at how all these seemingly liturgistically-ignorant young Jews mastered the choreography of Jewish prayer so well.I, too, felt empowered when I went there, and everyone else was using the same Siddur.I then went out and bought it, along with the Weekday one. I started davening in my home every day with it, and started taking my Shabbos one with me to more local shuls so I could "fake it" amongst the more Jewishly-educated Jews.I still use the Siddurs, four years later. However, my Hebrew reading skills have improved about 30%, as about 1/3 of the time, when I'm not in a rush, I actually sit there and say the prayers from the original Hebrew. When I get stuck, all I have to do is glance over at the English. But the next time, I don't get stuck. It's a slow process, but if you are like me, with no patience or time to actually master the Hebrew language, then this Siddur is for YOU!You probably won't be fluent in the liturgy right away, but you will most definitely be empowered, and five years down the road, you will actually know much more Hebrew than you do now!
I love this Siddur it is easy to read and is helpful in teaching Hebrew, the reason for the low star rating is amazons lack of care when shipping my items. The book arrived damaged with about thirty pages crumpled on one corner. The photo is after two weeks of trying to press the crumpled corner out.. Frustrating!
an excellent addition to my library, i plan to follow up and get more of his works and titles. excellent author, great content and physically the book is of great quality. an excellent addition to my library, i plan to follow up and get more of his works and titles. excellent author, great content and physically the book is of great quality. i use this book everyday in our studies and weekly in our study group
Great for people who can't read Hebrew yet. I purchased this so a family member could follow along with the service. They love it! Don't expect the layout to be as appealing as other Artscroll siddurim. It's a little crammed however for the one that doesn't know Hebrew, it will be a great leap forward in their kavanah.
This Siddur is beautiful from the moment you take it out of the package. Once you open it, it's even more amazing with the Interlinear Transliteration helps and commentary. The only disappointment I had was not with this Siddur itself, but I failed to realize that this is an Ashkenaz Transliterated Siddur, and not a Sefard. That, however, does not take away from what this Siddur deserves! It's beautiful inside and out with Transliteration for those who are just learning Hebrew. Well worth the investment!
