PEOPLE DON’T LIKE ARTHUR ELGORT. They love him. And the family he kept so close along with him. If you want technically accurate pictures of your children, follow a techie and get step by step instructions. If art and love is your game, this is your book. This is what I wanted to be able to do when I bought a decent camera with some hard-to-come-by funds years ago -- and then it was stolen on a happy July 4th on the National Mall when I looked up at the fireworks. Never scraped together enough funds again -- lost the heart for it. But if this book had been available for me to buy back then, I would have gotten my heart back. He helps you know you can do it -- even with a cheapie camera. You can do it -- if you just have the heart for it. And for your children. I hadn't lost the heart for my children -- I just didn't realize it was enough. I love Arthur Elgort -- and his family -- and this book. I get it now for other young parents who might become discouraged as I did, but who are willing to get down to their baby’s level as he does. If only it were still in print. As another reviewer said, he has created a visual lesson in loving fatherly attentiveness. There are no step by step instructions for that, but seeing it jump off each page like this could be called instructive. A true inspiration.

I was looking for specific advice about "how to shoot" my kid (photographically). I did not get it. This book REALLY IS just a photo album of the author's own kids. While some people may be able to infer how to achieve great photos of their kids by looking at Mr. Elgort's photos, I needed more "how to" instruction. There is very little text in this book at all and I felt the title was misleading. If you are looking for excellent instruction on how to photograph your children (babies in particular) buy HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH YOUR BABY by Nick Kelsh, a far superior book which I bought after trashing this one.

Great for new comers with kids. Offers suggestions that you may not of thought of, Encourages you to think outside the square.

This is a fantastic book that I return to again and again for inspiration. Granted, there is not a lot of text, not a lot of "how to". But, as with anything one tries to do at a high level, photography is mostly art and not science. You can read lots of books with f-stop measurements, shutter speeds, etc., but those won't teach you nearly as well as looking at good pictures, and taking lots of pictures. Elgort's text provides the basics, all one really needs. By studying this book, you get the same lessons as Kelsh's book: Get Close, Study the Light, and Use Lots of Film. You don't get to be a great music composer by reading books on composition, you get better by listening to music and studying scores. Most "how to" photo books are like reading books on bicycle riding -- this book has you actually get on a bicycle and ride. In addition, Camera Ready is a beautiful coffee table book -- the subtitle "How to Shoot Your Kids" also gets a lot of smiles.By the other reviews, I can see that this may not be a book for everyone: not for techie photographers, not for absolute beginners, etc. But with a little knowledge, this book can really help you with your most important pieces of photographic equipment: your mind and your eye.

This is one of the best books we have read on horse racing, and we have many. the story of American Pharoah is a real testament to an absolute great racehorse who will go down in history as one of the greatest ever after winning the Triple Crown after 37 years and then taking the Breeders Cup Classic to finalise an amazing career. He is now at Ashford Stud in Lexington, Kentucky. Wish he could have come to Ascot, England.

Ever since I saw Secretariat as a young man, I have waited for another great thoroughbred to be the other bookend in my life as a horse racing fan. American Pharoah is finally the one! There are a lot of very interesting facts that I did not know about the horse, trainer Bob Baffert, and jockey Victor Espinoza that make this story quite compelling. I recommend it to all sports fans or anyone who longs for an uplifting tale of triumph.

I had followed American Pharoah since his 2 year old year, so I know the whole story, so I wasn't sure how much I would like the book. I LOVED it! Great account of the Champ's march to the Triple Crown. Great insights from Bafferts and the other folks behind the scenes. Really enjoyable. I recommend it not just for those who love horses, but for anyone who appreciates a great sports story. A great job by Joe Drape.

Being the great horse he is, American Pharoah is certainly deserving of a book about him. However, this book fell a bit short of giving him the glory he deserves in my opinion. There was way too much personal information (often with a negative tone) about his owner, and not near enough detail about the horse himself, especially the races. The Breeders' Cup Classic is glossed over without even a play-by-play of the race which definitely should have been greatly expanded. I am happy I bought the book but would love to see a revised edition with more detail about his sweet, friendly personality and DETAILED accounts of the races - especially The Belmont and Breeders' Cup.

As a lifelong horse owner and lover, and one who followed American Pharoah as he changed history, I thought I'd read every bit of information about AP. This book surprised me in how much I did not know. Thoroughly enjoyable read. Just loved it and highly recommend!

Superbly written, thorough and complete story of American Pharoah's triple Crown trip. Loved every page about the horse and his people including his groom. A book to read and reread whether you are a racing fan or just a horse lover.

Really entertaining read even if you aren't a big racing fan. I bought as a gift for my mom who enjoyed it so much that I picked it up when she was done. Starts literally at conception of American Pharoah up to early 2016. Real sense of the people involved in the rise of this horse and of the horse himself. Great writing with a real personality.

When a writer starts with a great story, it's kind of hard to ruin it. Well, Joe Drape did a real good job with this Triple Crown story. I thoroughly enjoyed reliving the journey of American Pharaoh in 2014-2015. Super heroes take many forms, and an equine one is especially identifiable. This story delves into the trainer, the jockey, the owner, and the sport. However, the center of the story is the accomplishments of AP. Everyone is humbled by this great horse. The saddest part is predictably the last race of his career at the Breeder's Cup. It is in this race where AP cements his legacy as the greatest horse since Secretariat. It is also his swan song, and in a matter of days after his victory, he is whisked off to begin his new life as a stallion. For all of the central characters in this story, it was time to say good bye to the greatest horse that had ever entered their life.
