PEOPLE DONâ€™T LIKE ARTHUR ELGORT. They love him. And the family he kept so close along with him. If you want technically accurate pictures of your children, follow a techie and get step by step instructions. If art and love is your game, this is your book. This is what I wanted to be able to do when I bought a decent camera with some hard-to-come-by funds years ago -- and then it was stolen on a happy July 4th on the National Mall when I looked up at the fireworks. Never scraped together enough funds again -- lost the heart for it. But if this book had been available for me to buy back then, I would have gotten my heart back. He helps you know you can do it -- even with a cheapie camera. You can do it -- if you just have the heart for it. And for your children. I hadn't lost the heart for my children -- I just didn't realize it was enough. I love Arthur Elgort -- and his family -- and this book. I get it now for other young parents who might become discouraged as I did, but who are willing to get down to their babyâ€™s level as he does. If only it were still in print. As another reviewer said, he has created a visual lesson in loving fatherly attentiveness. There are no step by step instructions for that, but seeing it jump off each page like this could be called instructive. A true inspiration.

I was looking for specific advice about "how to shoot" my kid (photographically). I did not get it. This book REALLY IS just a photo album of the author's own kids. While some people may be able to infer how to achieve great photos of their kids by looking at Mr. Elgort's photos, I needed more "how to" instruction. There is very little text in this book at all and I felt the title was misleading. If you are looking for excellent instruction on how to photograph your children (babies in particular) buy HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH YOUR BABY by Nick Kelsh, a far superior book which I bought after trashing this one.

Great for new comers with kids. Offers suggestions that you may not of thought of, Encourages you to think outside the square.

This is a fantastic book that I return to again and again for inspiration. Granted, there is not a lot of text, not a lot of "how to". But, as with anything one tries to do at a high level, photography is mostly art and not science. You can read lots of books with f-stop measurements, shutter speeds, etc., but those won't teach you nearly as well as looking at good pictures, and taking lots of pictures. Elgort's text provides the basics, all one really needs. By studying this book, you get the same lessons as Kelsh's book: Get Close, Study the Light, and Use Lots of Film. You don't get to be a great music composer by reading books on composition, you get better by listening to music and studying scores. Most "how to" photo books are like reading books on bicycle riding -- this book has you actually get on a bicycle and ride. In addition, Camera Ready is a beautiful coffee table book -- the subtitle "How to Shoot Your Kids" also gets a lot of smiles.By the other reviews, I can see that this may not be a book for everyone: not for techie photographers, not for absolute beginners, etc. But with a little knowledge, this book can really help you with your most important pieces of photographic equipment: your mind and your eye.

This is one of the best books we have read on horse racing, and we have many. the story of American Pharoah is a real testament to an absolute great racehorse who will go down in history as one of the greatest ever after winning the Triple Crown after 37 years and then taking the Breeders Cup Classic to finalise an amazing career. He is now at Ashford Stud in Lexington, Kentucky. Wish he could have come to Ascot, England.

Ever since I saw Secretariat as a young man, I have waited for another great thoroughbred to be the other bookend in my life as a horse racing fan. American Pharoah is finally the one! There are a lot of very interesting facts that I did not know about the horse, trainer Bob Baffert, and jockey Victor Espinoza that make this story quite compelling. I recommend it to all sports fans or anyone who longs for an uplifting tale of triumph.

I had followed American Pharoah since his 2 year old year, so I know the whole story, so I wasn't sure how much I would like the book. I LOVED it! Great account of the Champ's march to the Triple Crown. Great insights from Bafferts and the other folks behind the scenes. Really enjoyable. I recommend it not just for those who love horses, but for anyone who appreciates a great sports story. A great job by Joe Drape.

Being the great horse he is, American Pharoah is certainly deserving of a book about him. However, this book fell a bit short of giving him the glory he deserves in my opinion. There was way too much personal information (often with a negative tone) about his owner, and not near enough detail about the horse himself, especially the races. The Breeders' Cup Classic is glossed over without even a play-by-play of the race which definitely should have been greatly expanded. I am happy I bought the book but would love to see a revised edition with more detail about his sweet, friendly personality and DETAILED accounts of the races - especially The Belmont and Breeders' Cup.

As a lifelong horse owner and lover, and one who followed American Pharoah as he changed history, I thought I'd read every bit of information about AP. This book surprised me in how much I did not know. Thoroughly enjoyable read. Just loved it and highly recommend!

Superbly written, thorough and complete story of American Pharoah's triple Crown trip. Loved every page about the horse and his people including his groom. A book to read and reread whether you are a racing fan or just a horse lover.

Really entertaining read even if you aren't a big racing fan. I bought as a gift for my mom who enjoyed it so much that I picked it up when she was done. Starts literally at conception of American Pharoah up to early 2016. Real sense of the people involved in the rise of this horse and of the horse himself. Great writing with a real personality.

When a writer starts with a great story, it's kind of hard to ruin it. Well, Joe Drape did a real good job with this Triple Crown story. I thoroughly enjoyed reliving the journey of American Pharaoh in 2014-2015. Super heroes take many forms, and an equine one is especially identifiable. This story delves into the trainer, the jockey, the owner, and the sport. However, the center of the story is the accomplishments of AP. Everyone is humbled by this great horse. The saddest part is predictably the last race of his career at the Breeder's Cup. It is in this race where AP cements his legacy as the greatest horse since Secretariat. It is also his swan song, and in a matter of days after his victory, he is whisked off to begin his new life as a stallion. For all of the central characters in this story, it was time to say good bye to the greatest horse that had ever entered their life.

We have been watching Hindu videos on You Tube without knowing the Hindi language and wanted to understand what was going on better. Reading this book clarified a lot! I especially appreciated the transliterated mantras, the extra lists and the glossary. My meditations have really been enhanced and I feel more intimate with the massive active consciousness of the Lord of the Cosmos. A little old lady wrote this book, you can find racier versions of this material. Being a little old lady myself, I was much relived at the dignity with which the stories were presented. I only wish the book could have been much thicker with more in depth intricacies, but that would not be one book. Good job condensing the essentials! I will re-read this one. Aum, Namah Shivaya!

I love this book. It tells of Shiva which is my favorite of Trimurtis. It explains many different aspects of Shiva instead of him just being the destroyer, which is more realistic. If he was just the destroyer he be more akin to a messenger or angel than a personification of the one God. Iy even tells you how you can worshio him/her and even speaks of Shakti/Shivaa. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in eastern religion.

I've gained a lot of knowledge about Shiva from this book. It's a very great one although stories told in this book are quite different from what I've read before. I'm sure anyone reading this book will enjoy the stories.

The book is a well written trove of information about Shiva, those whose worship him, and a glimpse of what "devotion" is. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in the source and foundation of many of today's books written as a basis for religions.

This is a remarkable book for those looking to grow in their depth of connection and understanding of Shiva.

I was hoping for something that would include the gymnastic apartatuses (beam, rings, bars, etc.). It barely could be called My First Tumbling Class. This does not. It also only features female children, which is frustrating. I love having Non-fiction books available, but also want quality.

Our toddler LOVES this book. We got it for her at the library when she started taking toddler gymnastics. And she wanted to have read to her 20 times a day!! She likes to mimic and try to do the activities in the book. Excellent, fun text. Highly recommended. Ages 12 months to 2nd grade.

Super cute book! My toddler likes the real girl pictures used. In the back are some stretching and warm-up exercises. She loves it. Ordered two more for gifts.

If only for one night.... hotel (insert hotel name).... room(insert room number they stayed in) idk but this was stupid. This book is really well written and very easy to follow. It just wasn't what I thought it would be; it's more of a history of Jewish-ness - like, what does it mean to be Jewish at different places and times in antiquity - sometimes told out of sequence, than it is a history of "the Jews" as a social, political and geographic tale. As someone who is not Jewish I felt like I was missing a lot of references and meaning in the discourse about what it means to practice Judaism. Not a criticism of the book or of Schama at all, it just wasn't 100% for me and that's okay.

What I most like about Schamaâ€™s book was the emphasis on the tangible. He concentrates on archeological discoveries, surviving papyrus letters and fragments, the ruins of ancient synagogue, their styles, locations and decorations, in other words, things that can be seen, felt, read. He does not start the history with Abraham, Moses and similar mythic characters for whom there is no real evidence. Since he deals mainly with the tangible, the history does not start as early as one might have thought, but starts early enough, at around 1000 B.C.E., and follows the Jews through Hellenistic, Roman, and Medieval Ages up until nearly the 16th century.One question that always comes to mind when reading Jewish history is how did this particular group survive when just about all other cotemporaneous religions and ethnicities disappear ages ago. Schama stresses the great advantage literacy gave the Jews for enduring cohesively through two Temple destruction, numerous exiles, attempted annihilations, forced conversions, and other scourges. Literacy seems always to have been encouraged. After all, even Yahweh himself was depicted as literate, inscribing the Ten Commandants himself and tagging Belshazzarâ€™s wall. What other early gods sent missives to their people? I donâ€™t recall off the top of my head Astarte, Baal, Zoroaster, Zeus depicted as reading and writing; usually their intentions were interpreted by oracles, omens and the like. But the laws of the Jews (unlike, say, the Moabites) were transcribed early on and apparently could be read a wide range of the populace. As early as the eighth century B.C.E., even heavy laborers carving a water conduit left inscriptions strongly suggesting they were literate. And from twenty-five centuries ago survive the letters of a Jewish mercenary at a faraway post to his family back home. The book has many more such examples.Simon Schama is a noted British lecturer and TV documentarian. He has a pleasant, conversational manner of speech, and he attempts to infuse this manner into his writing. So his sentences often have asides, phrases and comments through the use of commas, parentheses, dashes, quotation marks and italics. The result is that, for a history, his style seems chatty. This chattiness might be off-putting to some, but I found it pleasant, like a friend telling a story.

It goes without saying that this book is intellectually superior and informative in areas not familiar to many who will read it. The greatest virtue is Schama's writing though. There are times he has a wicked sense of humor at the wonderment of what the wandering jews have suffered, survived, and accomplished. His journey thru history takes us from the earliest known days of the religion, the Diaspora, it's fatal union with the Christian elements over the Dark- Middle Ages, as well as it's relations to Islam. His followup is likely to be as good if not better.

I knew very little about the great importance of the archives in Cairo and Alexandria and how they transfer to us today so many important, personal and nationwide, fact during hundreds of yeas.Schama story is based not on ideas, it is based on archaeological findings from all over the globe which makes the reader more confident in the truth of the story.Schama does not lecture the story, he describes the fact like a history novel... About the Author

Jabbour Douaihy is a celebrated Lebanese novelist born in the town of Zgharta, northern Lebanon, in 1949. He holds a PhD degree in comparative literature from the Sorbonne and works as a professor of French literature at the Lebanese University. He has published seven works of fiction, includingÂ June Rain, which was shortlisted for the inaugural International Prize for Arabic Fiction in 2008 and The Vagrant, shortlisted for IPAF in 2012. The American Quarter reached the IPAF long list in 2015.

The first two books are linked together as a series, but the third one is not character-related to the other 2 in the series. I enjoyed reading the first book, "The Huntress of Thornbeck Forest," because it reminded me a little bit of Robin Hood but with a twist. The second one, "The Beautiful Pretender," continues the storyline from the first, but reminded me a little bit of Beauty and the Beast vs Princess and the Pea. Enjoyed the character development in the second story and was wishing there was a third one to continue this storyline. The last book in this collection, The Golden Braid" follows the fairy tale of Rapunzel, but with a great twist. You will enjoy all three and will want to continue reading other books by this author.

It is difficult to find stories that touch the heart like these do. I liked the fairy tale aspect to the books. The Golden Braid, in particular, is definitely the best Rapunzel retelling I've read. The other two novels were less retellings and more new, unique fairy tales of their own that used old elements from various tales. There is a Christian focus to the stories which was great, and all the romances were very sweet! I definitely will be reading more of the author's books, because these are now some of my favorites.

What a delightful set of stories. They really kept my interest. So many twists and turns. Suspence at its greatest. So clean and refreshing. Can't wait to read more. Thanks

I really enjoy Melanie Dickerson's books. This one is not her best, but still enjoyable.

I would rate these books 4.5 stars. The characters were extremely fleshed out and believable. I just adore a good medieval love story, and all three of these definitely delivered. Intense action, twists, and the tie-in with traditional fairy tales was stellar. I wouldn't call myself a 'strong christian,' but I loved the fact that these books were clean. It was refreshing for me to know I wouldn't have to skip a page or two of sexual language. I'd much rather read for the story value and for the story taking me someplace and time. The Christian aspect didn't bother me, I imagine when faced with great peril most people pray. I liked how the characters were virtuous and upheld their beliefs and vows. I had no intention of reading this author because I didn't want a book to preach to me. I was already 1/3 of the way into the first book when I realized it was Christian fiction. I really toyed with the idea of putting it down, but I was already hooked. I simply couldn't leave Odette, I needed to hear her story. The other two were equally enticing, Dickerson certainly knows how to create good characters. I am planning on reading more of her fairy tales, I hope they are all as good as these three!
